The Kayla Gordon Musical Theatre Award
Through the generous support of Winnipeg Studio Theatre’s founding Artistic Director, we are excited to announce that the Kayla Gordon Musical Theatre Award has now become an annual award. Submissions for 2025 are now open!
The Kayla Gordon Musical Theatre Award supports emerging Manitoba-based artists who embody creativity and are pursuing opportunities in musical theatre. This $500 prize will be awarded to an individual who demonstrates a strong commitment to their craft and a passion for the theatre industry.
ELIGIBILITY
- The Applicant must be a Manitoba resident or have Manitoba as a primary Residence.
- Minimum age requirement: 21 years of age
- Self identifies as an EMERGING ARTIST (defined as one who has spent 5 years or FEWER practising their craft through public presentation NOT including student performances)
- Has demonstrated an active pursuit of a career in Musical Theatre by seeking training, skill development workshops and performance opportunities.
APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE
- Artist’s Headshot and Resume
- A reel or compilation showcasing your artistic ability (maximum 3 minutes). Please upload the video to YouTube and share the link in your submission
- A brief statement (max 500 word) introducing yourself and answering the question “What made you apply for the Kayla Gordon Musical Theatre Award?”
Deadline: August 8th, 2025
Selection process
The applications will be juried by staff and board members of Winnipeg Studio Theatre. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to provide a letter of reference from an established artist in the community. Applications can be submitted to mdaa@winnipegstudiotheatre.com.
